The mandate of the engineering department is to manage the entire municipal infrastructure so as to guarantee sustainable operations. To achieve this goal, it plans, coordinates and performs the construction and replacement of municipal infrastructure, all according to established quality standards and at the best possible cost. It also provides strategic management of the City's real estate portfolio by providing a vision and planning of required investments over the medium- and long-term.
With respect to real estate development projects, it establishes agreements with developers for the construction of new municipal infrastructure and ensures that construction conforms to established standards.
It also leads the design and implementation of new urban parks within the city and the redevelopment of those become obsolete. These projects are guided by the City's Plan directeur des équipements récréatifs et sportifs
The department contributes to the greening, beautification and improvement of urban streets. It also has a mandate to manage active mobility and traffic on public roads, including the geometric configuration, signage and traffic lights, traffic calming measures and all related facilities.
Finally, it manages the implementation of major projects across the city, both in terms of construction and renovation of buildings and for other large-scale works.
